Stop Symantec Antivirus detecting StaffCop

Running or installing StaffCop system on remote (employee) computers protected by Symantec Antivirus you can face the problem, that Symantec prevents you from doing that and reports this attempt to a user of monitored station detecting the StaffCop as a spyware.

That is a widespread problem, but we know way out!

In this case you should move the StaffCop from Symantec Security Risks list to Exceptions list. Most of anti-virus programs provide such security risks lists .

So, if you need to stay protected by Antivirus but safely disable it from detecting the StaffCop system, then just add StaffCop to the list of Exceptions following the below instructions. These instructions should be valid or similar for all recent versions of Symantec Antivirus (for corporate edition of Symantec Antivirus all changes to Antivirus Clients can be made from centralized Management Server).

Open Symantec Antivirus.

Add Staff Cop Agent to list of Exceptions of Antivirus's Custom Scan configuration as described below.

  1. Open Symantec AntiVirus ->Scan->Custom Scan in the tree. Click Options... button and then click Actions button.
  2. Select Security Risks -> Spyware in Actions list. Switch to Exceptions tab on the right and click Add button on the bottom of the window.
  3. Antivirus loads write-ups of known spyware. Find Spyware.StaffCop in that list. Mark a check box on its left and click Next.
  4. On the next page select First Action: Exclude. You will have Spyware.StaffCop added to the Exceptions list. Click OK to save the settings.

Add Staff Cop Administrator to list of Exceptions of File System Auto-Protect starting with the following.

  1. Select Configure -> File System Auto-Protect in tree view. Click Actions button on the right.
  2. Repeat steps 2-4 and add Spyware.StaffCop to Auto-Protect Exceptions.

Now Symantec will not detect and report neither StaffCop Administrator nor StaffCcop Agent on this computer.

These step must be repeated on all computers where you are going to install StaffCop Agent or Administrator.
